In the event a court issues a peace order, protective order, or ex parte order, you may be ordered out of your residence for up to a year, any violation of that order can result in contempt of court and imprisonment and a finding against you by the court can result in a permanent record.

Knowing exactly how to connect the facts in your case with the specific statutes and case law can make the entire difference in wining and losing your domestic violence case when you appear in court. If you have questions call Jack Hyatt 410-486-1800.

The experience, expertise, specific knowledge and skill of the lawyer that represents you in court can make the entire difference in preventing a court order to be on your permanent record.

Filing documents with a court is meaningless without incorporating the specific legal authorities into the documents prior to filing. Busy trial judges who hear many different types cases may not be as knowledgeable as a dedicated peace order, protective order, or ex parte lawyer who can bring specific knowledge to a case which can make all of the difference between wining and losing. Each case is different and past records are no assurance that the Lawyer will reach a favorable result in any future case.

Due to the specific requirments of the burden of proof, you should have a knowdgable lawyer on your side to review all documents prior to submission to court and with you while you are testifying. If you have questions call Jack Hyatt 410-486-1800.

"He who represents himself has a fool for a client" "Abraham Lincoln"

This quotation is especially true in cases involving domestic violence cases. Attempting to present legal arguments without the assistance of a knowlegeable attorney and without having the required legal authorities being part of the record can often result in an unfavorable decision. Many cases that have a high potential to win are lost because the correct legal authorities were not properly set forth in the documents filed with the court and not properly argued while in court. Because all appeals are time consuming, having to file an appeal to attempt to reverse a court decision can be expensive.

WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic violence is about one person getting and keeping power and control over another person in an intimate relationship. The abusive person might be your current or former spouse, live-in lover or dating partner.

Domestic violence happens to people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and religions. It occurs in both opposite-sex and same-sex relationships. Economic or professional status does not indicate domestic violence - abusers and victims can be laborers or college professors, judges or janitors, doctors or orderlies, schoolteachers, truck drivers, homemakers or store clerks. Domestic violence occurs in the poorest ghettos, the fanciest mansions and white-picket-fence neighborhoods.
